This dome was built by one of the first pioneers in dome building back in 1993. The owner approached me asking that I help her solve her leaking roof problem. As I entered the house, what stood out were the buckets that were everywhere. One set started on top of her television set, crossed her walkway, then covered her endtable. All were positioned under the skylight above.
Less than a year ago, this dome was pulverized with hail. From a high vantage point, one can easily see the angle the hail hit her dome. This hail pierced the fabric leaving a series of slits easily larger than 3 inches.
Together we discovered an elastomeric paint that would meet the demands of her handicapped dome. (The store brands that I have used in the past for other applications in comparison have no business referring to their product as elastomeric.) This paint is so thick that one has no trouble rolling up partially dried excess into a ball and throwing it at his coworker. This paint is combined with a fabric to provide a product that is the perfect complimentary reinforcement to the fabric.
I should tell you that to the best of my knowledge, I am the first to professionally marry the Monolithic dome home with this paint. I am, as they say in the technology industry, on the bleeding edge. Yet I am so confident in this marriage that not only have I coated my own dome with this product, but also I am going forward with putting my name on this as a provided service guaranteeing its success as a way to waterproof a monolithic dome for years. The elastomeric paint manufacturer themselves guarantee their product for ten years before additional coatings are required.
Do not pay attention to the reddish coloring. This is only the undercoat. The topcoat is available in an assortment of colors.
Below is the nearly finished product.
Additionally, Leitgeb Industries has completed a neighbor's dome with the same elastomeric paint.
My wife and I have decided that this style awning is our favorite non-augment awning. The rounded top complements the dome.
